Real impact. Strengthening civic dialogue in Warsaw's schools and neighbourhoods

01.08.2023 - 30.06.2024
project targeted at Youth Councils Youth School

About the project

The idea behind the project was to create a space for debate between young residents and decision-makers (school management and neighbourhood authorities) and thus for young people to have a real impact on their schools and communities.

As part of the project activities, we invited young people to:
  • carry out a survey of the needs of the school and district communities and choose a guiding theme for the activity,
  • participate in a series of empowerment workshops in areas such as community diagnosis, communication etc.,
  • lead a process of civic dialogue between young people and decision-makers and officials,
  • work with a mentor dedicated to each team.
The project involved representatives of student self-governments and youth district councils, as well as representatives of schools and district offices.

The project's formula is based on the experience of the pilot project ‘We diagnose, design, change. Strengthening civic dialogue in Warsaw schools and districts' in 2022 and 2023.

Closing conference

On 20 June, a conference summarising the project was held in Warsaw.

During the conference, we talked about the methods of our work (including researching the needs of young people, debates, dialogue with decision-makers) and presented the activities that 14 project teams - student councils and youth councils - had undertaken as part of the project.

The project is financed by the City of Warsaw and implemented as part of the implementation of the Warsaw Youth Policy.

The policy is a strategic document containing the directions in which the city should develop in order for young people to feel good here. It serves as a guide for adults working with or for youth. The Policy can be found here.
