Civic education for professionals in Warsaw

01.09.2024 - 30.06.2025
project targeted at Youth School
This project, addressed to Warsaw vocational and technical schools, aims to improve the civic competence of young people and teachers through the implementation of workshops and educational activities on democracy and the functioning of political systems.

At a time when citizen participation in public life is crucial to the preservation of democratic values, civic education is becoming an integral part of the development of modern societies.

Aim of the project

The project aims at introducing modern forms of civic education that will help young people understand the mechanisms of democratic systems, the role of politics and how they can actively participate in public life. Vocational schools and technical schools are an ideal place for such activities, since students at these institutions are often prepared for specific professions, but are less likely to participate in discussions about civic duties and rights.

Project results

Through active teaching methods, young people will gain knowledge about how to influence decisions made at different levels of government.

In the long run, the project will contribute to increasing young people's involvement in public life and their conscious participation in democratic processes.

As part of the project, we will implement specialized civic workshops conducted by experienced trainers from the Civis Polonus Foundation. The trainers will introduce young people and teachers to issues related to the functioning of democracy, political decision-making and the role of citizens in shaping reality.

Workshop participants will have a choice of topics, such as:
  • Rule of law - what does it mean and what is its importance in our daily lives?
  • Local government, Warsaw local government - what role does it play in democracy and in our daily lives?
  • Freedom of speech - what does it actually mean and why is it important for each of us?
  • What rights do I have?
  • The European Union and its values - what do they give me?
  • Conflict resolution in social and public life
  • Where do I get my information from? - media education
  • What does it mean to be an ecological Varsovian?
The project is co-financed by the Warsaw City Hall.
